Needing some Yoga Nidra deep sleep? On Sunday June 1 at 4pm, the 9th Yoga Nidra Workshop will be offered at Siesta Yoga for $20. This workshop will include some fun with laughter yoga! We begin with some yoga poses (asana) to warm up the body, a little play time, then 35-45 minutes of divine yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) with a short amount of journaling and/or social engagement time afterward in order to help transition back to "real life" while taking any realizations or thoughts with them. I also have a few 's for sale for $10 for those who wanted to take home the practice and benefit from Yoga Nidra more often.

Yoga Nidra is the state of being between sleep and wakefulness where the relaxation response and regeneration occur. This healing practice relieves stress patterns by retraining the nervous system to relax which creates a natural setting for the body to heal itself. Yoga Nidra is the perfect supplement to yoga, therapy, meditation, and other healing modalities or can be used alone. Yoga Nidra has been proven through studies at Stanford, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and other universities to help reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, high blood pressure, insomnia, addiction and cholesterol, and increases overall calm and feelings of well-being, enhances creativity and motivation, strengthens the endocrine system, and balances the nervous system. Everyone can benefit from Yoga Nidra, children included (this particular workshop is for adults or teens who are able to sit/lay still for 35 or more minutes).

Please wear comfortable, stretchy clothing, bring a yoga mat and anyone you think might benefit from some relaxation! This meditation requires nothing except listening to the sound of my voice and being aware of your body. It will work even if you fall asleep! I hope to see you, SC!

Yoga Nidra is an ancient but little-known yogic practice that's becoming increasingly popular as both a form of meditation and a mind-body therapy. It is a systematic form of guided relaxation that typically is done for 35 to 45minutes at a time with research showing that 45 minutes of practice is equal to approximately four hours of deep sleep.

Practitioners say that it often brings immediate physical benefits, such as reduced stress and better sleep, and that it has the potential to heal psychological wounds. As a meditation practice, it can engender a profound sense of joy and well-being.

It's a deceptively simple practice. Because yoga nidra is most often taught lying down—initially guided by a teacher—it's appealing to people who might feel intimidated by yoga postures or traditional seated meditation. A short version of yoga nidra can be introduced and practiced in less than 10 minutes. Yet its various elements, taken together and practiced regularly, make up a sophisticated set of mind-body tools that can help practitioners navigate some of life's harshest moments. Yoga Nidra can also be practiced as an accessible form of meditation for those seeking everyday well-being.
