No experience needed, just the ability to lay down still for one hour.

Full Description

Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice originating from Tantras- Sacred Vedic scriptures- and it roughly translates as yogic or conscious sleep.
It is a state of conscious deep sleep.

In meditation one remains in the waking state of consciousness and gently focuses the mind while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations and images to arise and pass by without engaging. In Yoga Nidra one leaves the waking state of consciousness, goes beyond the dreaming state and into deep sleep state, yet remains fully awake and alert. There is a paradox in this yet this is exactly what happens in yoga nidra.

In the deep sleep state the mind’s activity recedes back into the silent place from which the though patterns arose, where memories are stored.

While yoga nidra starts by relaxing the body layer after layer, it is mainly a very useful state for spiritual practices. The ancient yogis used this state to examine their thought patterns in their latent, non active form. Here thoughts, emotions, images and sensations gather when they recede from their actions in the waking and dreaming states.

These formless forms or deep habit patterns are called samskaras, which are the driving force of actions, or karma. Habitual negative actions, normally arising from these deep impressions, can thus be reduced and eliminated through the practice of yoga nidra.

This is also proven to be one of the most effective forms of psychic and physiological rest; it helps to rejuvenate body and mind, as well as to restore a state of calm and peace and therefore it is particularly beneficial for people leading busy and stressful lives. The practice is calming and nourishing and it is highly recommended for all types of mental and physical imbalances.

The use of mat is included but you can bring your own if you have one, a blanket to keep your body warm as you relax, a small pillow and a bottle of water.
