She trained at the world-renowned Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy at Neyyar Dam, Kerala, and is also certified in Yoga Therapy by the Yoga Vidhya Dham, Nasik. After completing her training, she co-founded the renowned Yogasutra studio in Mumbai, radically bringing teachers of different yoga disciplines under one roof to offer clients an integrated experience. Trayl Aitken-Cade
Former navy diver and rugby player Trayl developed a fascination with the body during his competitive sports career in South Africa, which led to a second career in massage and personal training. After qualifying in sports massage in 2003, he ran his own massage and personal training company before heading to Chiang Mai in 2010 to teach Thai massage. While in Thailand he spent time with the country’s famous blind massage masters, honing his craft at local hospitals and temples and developing his own signature massage. Combining traditional Western and Eastern traits with his own intuitive techniques, Trayl’s one-of-a-kind massages have seen him in demand at at the world’s most exclusive spas.

THE RESORT:
Surrounded by more than 400 acres of protected nature reserve, Amanera’s sleek Modernist structures emerge from virgin jungle above the Dominican Republic’s dramatic northern coastline. Amanera means ‘peaceful water’, a name that conjures both the surrounding natural features – waterfalls, mangrove-lined lagoons and the ever-shifting spectrum of the Atlantic – and the design of the property, centred around a tiered water feature and a curved infinity pool. The minimalist architecture of the Casitas, all of which have private pools, places the focus on the incredible outdoors, where adventure and relaxation await. At the Aman Spa, therapies are influenced by the country’s shamanic healing traditions, using local herbs and plants in a comprehensive menu of treatments.

THE FOOD:
Caribbean-inflected dishes are the focus of The Restaurant’s menu, featuring traditional stews, ceviche and freshly caught fish. After dinner, the Dominican Republic’s heritage of rum, chocolate and cigar making comes into its own.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
Explore the pretty, art-filled fishing villages and colonial architecture that adorns the coastline, kite-surf at world-famous Cabarete, or sample the spectacular cliff-side golf course.

THE JOURNEY:
Amanera is a 60-minute drive from both Puerto Plata (POP) and Samaná El Catey (AZS) airports.
