Proposal for a Yoga, Meditation, Creative Workshop and Energy Work Retreat. January or February 2017
The daily programme will include one and a half hours of meditation and yoga early morning before breakfast and each evening, one hour of gentle yoga to wind-down before dinner.
My yoga style is Hatha and Astanga with an introduction to Kundalini yoga. The retreat is ideal for both beginners and the more experienced practitioners of yoga, Qi Gong and meditation. My approach to yoga is holistic. We will work on our mind our body and our spirit in a reinvigorating and stress free environment on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. The programme includes Pranayama, (energy breathing), Mudras (hand gestures), Asanas that that stretch and invigorate our very being and Qi Gong energy work. We will also sit together in mindfulness meditation; share our experiences and form wholehearted and lasting friendships.
There will be plenty of time for relaxation, sunning ourselves, reading, making offerings around Bodhi trees in Buddhist temples and visiting fascinating cultural places. I also carry paints, brushes and art paper with me, so anyone feeling creative can enjoy time expressing their artistic side either individually or as a group.
I have chosen two possible resorts to consider: you can check them both out on their own websites or on sites like I have negotiated prices with both resorts and achieved, I believe, a good value-for-money costing which includes transport from the airport and three dinners together as a group as I felt that there is so much to explore in both resorts that we may not all wish to eat each evening in the resort. The prices include breakfast, but not lunch.
I have not included prices for day trips out as I want these to be optional, but each resort can organize vehicles for day trips. The beautiful city of Galle with its amazing Dutch history, romantic cobbled streets and fabulous shopping is a must as is a trip to a temple with a Buddhist guide who can show us the holy tradition of making offerings. We can also do some turtle spotting!
We can choose to take the retreat for either seven or ten days. If anyone is interested to stay on for longer, or try other places and accommodation, I can help you with some ideas and advise.
Hotel Suite Lanka is on, yes I said on, the beach of Hikkadua. You will practice yoga breathing in the air from the Pacific Ocean. This very modern and impeccable four star resort has only eight rooms. It would be marvelous if we could take the whole resort for this retreat. It is at a quiet end of the beach, but just a short stroll from the main beach with its cafes and restaurants selling fresh fish grilled on the beach. If you are not too keen on ocean swimming, the resort has its own pool. The rooms are all double with king size beds. A single bed can be incorporated into some of the rooms if you are happy to share as they are all airy and spacious. The bathrooms are sumptuously modern with granite finishes. The prices the resort quote on the website are for two persons per room including breakfast.
The price range for 9 nights/ 10 days including 27 hours of yoga and meditation
will be from 1500 Euros ( 1190 Pounds) to 2000 Euros (1579 pounds)
Mirissa Hills Resort, Mirissa.
Mirissa Hills is a resort with two large villas on a cinnamon plantation about 15 minutes drive from the Mirissa beach resort. Here there are amazing vistas of the surrounding jungle and countryside and wide open views towards the ocean. There is a yoga pavilion on a spacious lawn and a private swimming pool. Again, this is luxurious four star accommodation with the most amazing artwork and sumptuous sitting, eating and relaxing communal areas; a wonderful and tranquil atmosphere. Here we will be tucked away from the crowds, yet a 15 minute tuk tuk drive will bring you to the dynamic and lovely bay of Mirissa.
With this option there are super luxury rooms for two or three persons in the upper villa, and more simple, but equally lovely rooms in the lower villa. All meals, yoga practice, swimming etc will be in the higher villa with the amazing views. I am quoting here prices for rooms in the upper villa:
Price here range from 2000 Euros ( 1578 pounds) to 2400 Euros (1895 pounds) and includes yoga lessons with my wonderful yoga master Chanaka Ruckshan who will also give us a personal visit to a Buddhist temple.
Accurate prices can be given once we know the numbers and sharing requirements of everyone.
