The retreat is fuelled by a nourishing, seasonal vegetarian menu and non-alcoholic refreshments that revive and fortify the body, while tranquil countryside walks and wild swimming invigorate and inspire the mind. This is the gentle and inspirational landscape beloved by writers such as Andre Breton and Françoise Sagan. The chocolatier in nearby Nerac was the location for Joanne Harris’s novel, Chocolat.
There’s no wrong way to write, and no previous writing experience is needed – just a sense of adventure.
ELAINE KINGETT: In 2012, inspired by the discovery of her parents’ war diaries Elaine established Write It Down! – a series of creative and life writing workshops, retreats and holidays in London. With locations now in Andalucia, Mallorca, Gascony and Snowdonia, these intimate courses teach everyone, irrespective of their writing experience or academic skills, how to take up a notebook and pen and record their life for future generations. And, in the process, to discover the wide-ranging and scientifically acknowledged therapeutic benefits of personal, self-driven penmanship. She believes emphatically that we are all writers and, with gentle support and encouragement, we can discover our unique writing voice and the power of the pen on the page.
Elaine’s extensive professional background as a writer and journalist includes feature writing, copy writing and business writing in the fashion world for over 30 years. She has been a features writer for Woman&Home magazine for 15 years, (writing about her life, relationships and family) for which she received a PPA Highly Commended Writer Of The Year Award. She has an MA in Professional Writing from University College Falmouth and studied Autobiographic Creative Writing at the University of Sussex. Elaine is also a graduate of the Hoffman Process and a member of Lapidus – the Writing For Wellbeing Organisation. She is completing further study on therapeutic and reflective writing with The Professional Writing Academy. She has studied mindfulness meditation in Nepal and London.
Elaine’s retreats combine the joy of writing with the inspiration of the natural environment and nurturing benefits of good food, comfortable accommodation and a small group of supportive, non-judgemental companions. This is her first year working with Little French Retreat.

TAMSIN CHUBB teaches classical Hatha Yoga at her retreat venue Little French Retreat. Her approach is relaxed, appreciating the simplicity of yoga and how it helps you to feel balanced and understand that we’re already perfect. You don’t have to be ‘good’ or ‘flexible’ in postures, it’s about learning to breath properly, relax fully and to be kind with yourself. She offers a yoga practice that is designed to take you into a deeper understanding with your true self connecting and balancing the mind and body with ease. A powerful class that begins with the practice of pranayama and meditation leading into a gentle flowing asana practice, resulting in being left restored and relaxed. She first discovered yoga in her early twenties with Sivananda in London and instantly loved the way it made me feel. She has practiced varying styles of yoga and in 2012 took her 200 hours teaching course with Sivananda in the Himalayas, completing her 500 hour certificate in Southern India under the guidance of Swami Govindananda and teachers at Sivananda Yoga Vidya Peetham. She has spent time living in ashrams in France and India to deepen her knowledge of yoga, teach and work as a Karma Yogi, practicing selfless service. She continues to learn and take inspiration from contemporary teachers weaving influences into her practice and teaching style.
What to expect:

You will walk in the Gascony countryside, breath clean air, stare at the stars and make plans for your future. You will laugh and may cry, you will amaze yourself and learn new skills. Daily yoga sessions will stretch and soften your body and you will eat eat gently, mindfully and with gratitude. You will return home refreshed and empowered, with your self-esteem renewed and your body regenerated.
