About Old Kent Estates & Spa retreat
Old Kent Estates, Coorg
One of the earliest established coffee plantations in the country, Old Kent located in Coorg, a region aptly monikered the "Scotland of India". The plantation is spread over 200 acres of still flourishing coffee-bushes and pepper vines, surrounded by spectacular forested hills interspersed with water bodies and ponds of fresh spring water.
The property was developed in the 1800s by Lieutenant Colonel W. R. Wright, an army
officer in British India. Today the property is owned by The Thaikappa family, who hail from southern Tamilnadu. In the following 5 decades, it has been enjoyed by the second, third and fourth generations of the family as a cherished holiday home and a treasure trove of fond childhood memories.
The highlight of the property is the Old Kent Lodge. Built in 1864, the Lodge is perched at a vantage point within the estate. The verandah of the Lodge offers a breathtaking 180 degree view of the surrounding mountains and valley changing colours through the day, and a panoramic view of the night sky after sundown. The Lodge has alongside vignettes of the bygone era, all the necessities of present day luxury tucked within. The rooms have been redesigned as a reception, a dining area, a library, a recreation, a home theatre and the Spa.
There is a wide range of entertainment for guests ranging from indoor activities to outdoor activities such as trekking, a walk in the woods, bird watching, star gazing etc. Guests can unwind with a relaxing massage or various other luxurious treatments & therapies in the privacy of their own cottage or at the Old Kent Spa. The Spa houses 2 rooms and a Victorian claw bath tub. The Spa was renovated in December 2017.
Keeping in mind the exclusivity of their guests, the owners have decided to keep the number
of guest cottages limited to only eight. Tucked away within the estates, the cottages give the
guests plenty of privacy, allowing them to wake up to birdsong on misty mornings and enjoy
moments of tranquillity through the day. The cottages have a private garden and sit-out, elegant living room with one of the wall panel completely glassed to provide a scenic view from within the cottage. The cottages are also fitted with a Victorian Epsom foot bath to help guest rejuvenate after a vigorous trek.
Our newly built Twin cottage has an enclosed private garden and sit-out, elegant living room with one of the wall panel completely glassed to provide a scenic view from within the cottage, a spacious bedroom with a King-size bed and a bathroom with access to an open air Jacuzzi, with a spectacular view of the plantation and birds chirping.
