Iyengar yoga is a method of Hatha Yoga developed over a period of 70 years by Iyengar of Pune, India, one of the world's most acclaimed yoga masters. Iyengar yoga's basic principles of movement are compatible with current developments in the field of physical therapy and in other modern bodywork disciplines. Students practicing Iyengar yoga are encouraged to refine both their knowledge of asanas (poses) and pranayama (breathing) using this method. Asanas are individualized for the needs of different bodies. Various props are used maximize opening and awareness throughout the body. In addition to developing physical strength, balance and flexibility, Iyengar yoga develops emotional strength that helps students handle the challenges of life.

General asana class

Treat yourself to some personal time and give yourself permission to stop and take a deep breath. Whether you spend your day on your feet, sitting at a desk, or somewhere in between, you can benefit from a soothing yoga class. We will begin with a restorative pose for deep relaxation. Focus will be on breath work to calm the mind. Then we will work our way through some yoga poses designed to release tension, improve posture and increase blood flow. Finally we will end with a restful pose so that you leave refreshed and focused. Make Wednesday a special yoga day!

This is a level 1-3 practice. We go deeper into the poses with the intention to strengthen and align our bodies. Come breathe, move your body mindfully, align bones and muscles, still the mind, and create community. Yoga experience is useful but not necessary. Beginners are welcomed!

Come strengthen and open your body, mind and spirit progressively every Monday and Wednesday morning! You will notice an increased ease and joy for everyday life. Lots of individual instruction provided.

General asana class

Yoga means 'connection' in Sanskrit. In this fun community class, kids, teens, and parents can calm the busy mind and body through movement, breath, and mindfulness techniques.

This class provides an encouraging and warmhearted environment to explore yoga poses (from 'warrior' and 'cobra' to 'upsidedown tree'), breath work (from 'ocean breath' to 'shining skull'), and meditation (from 'body scanning' to Buddhist 'compassion-meditation'). Class includes optional partner exercises to inspire balance, coordination, and trust. Basic anatomy, demonstrated by our in-house skeleton, provides tools to self-treat common aches caused by stress and one-sided movement patterns at school and work. Besides developing general awareness, strength, and flexibility, yogis and yoginis will encounter metaphors, myths, and the occasional music mantra to help inspire 'aha moments' on the mat and in daily life.

Bev teaches yoga in the tradition of BKS Iyengar who developed an innovative approach to classical hatha yoga. Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment while developing strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. She is capable and experienced and received her certification in 1986 from BKS Iyengar.
