New to yoga? Working with an injury or other physical complication? Coming back from an extended period away from practice? Or just ready to deepen your functional understanding of the foundations of yoga? This class is for you.

The approach to this class is simple: break the ice, get fit, avoid injury, learn the classical foundations of yoga, be in supportive community, and have fun while doing it. The focus on new students means allowing you to slow down, build your personalized practice, ask the important questions, and discover your meaningful connection to yoga.

Learn mindful movements, breathing, and meditation practices that support healthy aging. We'll focus on improving or maintaining muscle strength, bone density, and balance. All ages are welcome to attend this gentle therapeutic class, however it will be geared towards those over 65 years of age.

No prior yoga experience necessary; all levels and ages welcome!

This is a MWF morning class Groove Yoga in Berkeley. Mondays we focus on the warm-up and variations of a single pose, Wednesdays we do a silent practice in high Prasana Yoga style (multi-dimensional vinyasa from the middle of the mat, with a base pose of saddle posture and careful work with the breath and hands), Friday we do a more traditional straight-line vinyasa class with the Sun Salutation as the organizing form.

Hatha is the most common branch of yoga practiced in the United States. Hatha is derived from the Sanskrit words for sun (Ha) and moon (tha), which suggests the goals of balance and harmony between opposites. It is considered the mother of many other forms we know today. You will find a focus on breathe and alignment with an emphasis on allowing your body to move through the postures gently.

The Hatha Flow classes are appropriate for any level yoga with a basic understanding of the postures. You develop self-awareness and a calm mind along with increased flexibility and enhanced state of well-being.

Enjoy a lunchtime stretch in this hour long Yoga class and emerge relaxed and re-energized for the rest of your day.

Yin & InnerYoga

The Rocket is a dynamic, lively-paced Vinyasa flow class in the system of Ashtanga. Called the Rocket because "it gets you there faster," it empowers you with the knowledge that you're stronger than you think you are, and that there's nothing to fix: come as you are and do what feels right. Just show up.

Rocket 1 focuses on opening and strengthening the lower half of the body: legs and hips.
Rocket 2 focuses on strength and flexibility in the upper half of the body: back and hips.
Rocket 3 Happy Hour! plays with the dance of the breath and is all about learning to go with the flow. Combining all the poses from Rocket 1 and 2, the transitions between poses become just as valued as the poses themselves.

This empowering self-care focused class combines elements of yoga, corrective movement, and self-massage using Yoga Tune Up® Therapy Balls to de-stress, unlock myofascial restrictions and improve body awareness. The poses, sequences & routines identify and strengthen ‘body blind spots’ - areas of the body that are overused, underused or misused and are potential catalysts for pain and injury. This class leaves you balanced, integrated and living better in your body.

Practice a strong Hatha yoga class with flowing sequence of asanas (poses) usually built around the classical Surya Namaskar (sun salutation). A strong connection between breath and movement creates a moving meditation to relax the mind while energizing the body. Props may be used for support.

A strong alignment based flow class.

A fun filled dynamic class, where you will flow, move with breath, sweat, build mental clarity and also cultivate discipline so that by the end you feel calm, clear and refreshed.
In all of my classes I give options so you can work at the level you want depending on how you feel that day.

A general and intermediate class for most levels, this class is appropriate for experienced practitioners and advancing beginners with general body awareness and/or good listening skills. Yoga postures flow in a logical sequence that builds heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and mental focus. Variations are offered along the way to help you gain the most out of your practice as you honor your truth in the present moment.
