From Carla, Director of A Perfect Knot
Thank you so much for visiting this site! You have found a friendly, small studio that has existed in the Willy St. neighborhood since I opened the center in 1996. Not interested in business or capitalism, I found I had to open a studio because there were not enough class times available at the mere two studios existing in Madison at that time. We have come a long way from my beginnings, teaching 11 classes per week and being the only teacher. Over the 17 years, the Knot has become an enduring place that is so loved by both teachers and students, that it is really a second home, a yoga home.
For some of you, it may be important to know that this studio is run with a minimum of hierarchy. There are no employees or contracts; we are independent teachers, yet joined by our love of the vast expanse that is Yoga. We do not have a retail section (though, if I find a really good deal where I can pass on savings to everyone, I occasionally buy mats or mat bags, etc.) and the space is simple which helps to keep our prices lower than most studios in the The cozy space, not using credit cards, no computers on premises, no advertising budget, word of mouth, cleaning up after ourselves--these all make a difference in the feel of the studio and not having to pass on unnecessary costs to those who choose to practice here.
The Knot is purely about studying, exploring, community
