My Favorite Yoga

Many moons ago I began what I dreaded, yoga classes, with Caterine Deans at the urging of a dear friend. Guess I can say that instantly I took a liking to Catherine's style of teaching and her understanding of anatomy. Her delivery is always very clear for the pose she is teaching as she first demonstrates and then calls it for us to do. Amazingly Catherine does not miss a beat on making these calls as she herself joins in too.

Later she observes the class and may suggest minor adjustments but always very quietly to just that student as she somehow still continues to call out directions to the others. Halfmoon Yoga suits me so well, too, because of the breathing used everytime we move. The breathing keeps me focused as I physically move through these poses. Therefore I become much more relaxed but yet energized while participating in the practice. Hopefully these comments will lend themselves to assuring one and all that Halfmoon Yoga is a studio that is managed by a very exper-ienced owner who is well trained, very intelligent, patient, supportive, encouraging, stimulating, and has superior understanding of the profession she so loves.

Thank you Betsy! It's a joy to have you in class. The reason I may "not miss a beat" cuing you guys is I only do the asanas a time or two to get you started. After that you're so focused you don't notice that I've stopped and have started to observe what you all are doing.

Halfmoon Yoga - great learning experience, personalized classes

Halfmoon Yoga provides a calm, clean and positive environment for learning yoga. Classes focus on the union of breath and movement, and each is slightly different, depending on the needs of the students on any given day. If you are a beginner or someone with experience, you'll find this a welcoming and enjoyable place to learn and practice yoga.

From Reluctant to Enthusiastic

I was so reluctant to go to Catherine's yoga class, having experienced such frustration at other yoga classes at the gym, but finally pain persuaded me to try her yoga class for fibromyalgia, and a year later I couldn't believe the difference. Her class is so gentle and quiet, and strengthening. I have seen the change in other class members' bodies as well. I enthusiastically recommend HalfMoon Yoga in Tallahassee to anyone dealing with chronic pain---you'll be glad you did!

Halfmoon Yoga

Halfmoon Yoga is warm, inviting, non-intimidating. The atmosphere is one of "this is different" and in a soul nurturing way. This student immediately understands Halfmoon Yoga is not about how to out-stretch, out-pretzel, out-handstand the other students in the class. There is an energy in the studio that allows the students to nuture the mind, body, and soul connection in a healthy and wise manner. Catherine, the owner of Halfmoon Yoga is engaged, attentive, approachable and intelligent. Put all these elements together and Halfmoon Yoga is an outstanding studio.

My Neutral ratings can be explained with the following: (1) there is only one room but it is VERY large -- roomy; and (2) I have not used the mats provided by the studio.

Thank you Ginger! The mats are extra large, professional-grade and CLEAN. I am the one responsible for cleaning them each and every time they're used. Sadly, we don't have a vestibule....but we have a clean and lovely restroom/changing area.

She Fixed My Back

Catherine's style is confident, intelligent and easy to follow. She has refined, through her training and experience, a way of seeing and interpreting specific patterns of movement (and thought) in her students and encouraging healthier substitutions. When she speaks, it is humble and quiet, so my advice is to listen hard because it IS significant and yes, she means YOU. She is an excellent trainer of teachers as well.

Yoga as it is meant to be.

Catherine's yoga class was a surprise. I have gone to several rah, rah, hot and sweaty classes around town. They weren't for me. Then I walked into Half Moon Yoga and I entered another world. The atmosphere was one of intimacy and calm. The studio isn't large but it holds around 12 people comfortably. I was met and greeted by Catherine. She and I talked and she found out about me: what I needed, where I was weak and where I needed help. This is not a gym workout. Rather this is a practice in the fullest sense. I can honestly recommend Half Moon Yoga to anyone, any age, any skill level. You will be thoroughly pleased. I've become a part of her practice.
