The Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre consists of three branches; the Arambol and Dharamkot centers, as well as the Himalaya Shanti Om Ashram. The Arambol and Dharamkot centers were both established in 1985 by Anand Sagar (Sharat Arora), a long term student of BKS Iyengar. Sharat’s priority of living and practicing in a natural environment led him to choose Goa, best known for the safest beaches in India and Dharamsala situated in the Himalayas. The Himalaya Shanti Om Ashram is our new Retreat Centre, which is a natural extension of our work that represents the principles guiding us in our journey. This new Centre is a four acre piece of land located on the banks of a little river, coming straight from the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas, one-hour away from our Dharamkot Centre.
These centers offer various yoga and meditation courses to suit the requirements and time frames of students.
o basic yoga classes
o week-long yoga classes
o intensive yoga courses
o yoga teacher's training courses
o therapy courses
o special courses
o yoga for women
o yoga for children
o international yoga workshops
The courses are informative, motivational and above all experiential.
The Centre in Dharamkot was built with the desire to give visitors a feeling of inspiration and devotion. The Yoga Hall provides all the practical needs for students, as well as unique artistic beauty. The land surrounding the structure is given as much care and significance as the Yoga Hall itself. Being just a bare piece of land when we started, our Centre is now home to 150 trees, and several varieties of flowers, roses and shrubs. In order to attract as much wildlife as possible, four ponds have been introduced into the gardens.
The Dharamkot Centre operates from the beginning of April until the end of October.
