I am an RYT (registered yoga teacher) and a Certified Health Coach, and I teach private and small group yoga classes as well as one-on one health coaching in my cozy home studio in Gaithersburg, MD. I teach gentle forms of yoga to women in their 40s, 50s and 60s, and my primary goal is to show women that doing yoga and getting in shape can feel awesome and be fun too! I encourage women to grab their friends to form small classes with me. That makes yoga really fun! If you don't like group classes, join me for one-on-one sessions, so that we can focus on you and what is important to only you.
My health coaching provides guidelines for healthy eating, yoga and other forms of exercise that are suitable for the individual. Gentle forms of yoga help women with common ailments of getting older (, low back pain, hip pain, and tight hamstrings). These types of yoga also aid in relaxation and dealing with everyday stress. My yoga classes help women become more aware of their bodies, their breathing and their thought patterns, releasing tension to bring peace and well-being to their bodies and their minds.
Light cardio exercises offer great benefits, as well. You don't have to do high impact or a lot of reps to get the maximum benefit of cardiovascular exercise. I can help you design a program that will be fun and one that you will stick with. The benefits of cardio exercise are many and include: improved heart health, increased metabolism, improved hormonal balance so that there are decreases in depression and fatigue as well as the release of hormones to decrease appetite, and it helps bring more oxygen rich blood to the muscle tissue improving in the repair and rebuilding process.
Daily habits like diet and exercise greatly affect your risk of getting cancer. Research has shown that poor diet and not being active are 2 key factors that can increase a person’s cancer risk. The good news is that you can do something about this.
Besides quitting smoking, some of the most important things you can do to help reduce your cancer risk are:
- Get to and stay at a healthy weight throughout life.
- Be physically active on a regular basis.
- Make healthy food choices with a focus on plant-based foods.
The evidence for this is strong. The World Cancer Research Fund estimates that about 20% of all cancers diagnosed in the US are related to body fatness, physical inactivity, excess alcohol consumption, and/or poor nutrition, and thus could be prevented.
