In 1971, the Indian yoga master Swami Vishnudevananda returned to California and founded the third ashram in the young Sivananda International Organization: the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, on 80 acres of land located in the Gold Country of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills in Northern California.
The Yoga Farm is 100% volunteer-run and open to the public 365 days per year, and has been serving the international yoga community with courses and classes in the methods, practices, and study of classical yoga for over 40 years. The staff are trained to spread peace through peaceful communication and mindful conduct, as we practice the ancient teachings of non-violence, peace and mindfulness in our daily lives.
All are welcome to visit the Ashram. We offer daily open asana and pranayama classes twice daily, as well as weekend and weeklong yoga retreats, courses, conferences, and programs with teachers around the world.
We offer courses in the yogic practices for inner transformation, stress relief, to inspire and elevate, and to bring you back to balance, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Through the 5 points of yoga practice, we teach Proper exercise, proper breathing, proper diet, proper relaxation, positive thinking and mediation. These 5 points enable us to balance and restore energy so it may be channeled to serve only the highest good of the individual, the family, the community and the globe.
Since 1971, the ashram has been an oasis of peace and tranquility for people from all walks of life to come and find themselves. We are happy to announce a variety of new programs and courses developed over the past few years, as well as improved accommodations.

Come for a drop-in Yoga vaction of a few days or weeks and gradually walk the path towards the deeper aspects of Yoga - from improving fitness, relaxing and restoring energy, to maintaining health, calming the mind, and eventually perhaps becoming a counselor and Yoga teacher for others.
During holidays and throughout the year, the Yoga Farm organizes conferences and symposiums to bring together special guest teachers and artists from around the world to share their expertise. Take time to review our calendar and website four our full schedule of events.
