About
The Yoga Space is in a beautifully restored building located in the heart of downtown Berea. We're minutes away from Interstates 71 and 480, and just a short stroll from anywhere on the Baldwin-Wallace campus.
ABOUT YOGA
Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility.
The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "Yuj" meaning to yoke, join or unite. In yoga, we are integrating all aspects of the individual - body with mind and mind with soul - to achieve a happy, balanced and useful life, and spiritually, uniting the individual with their unique and true self. So although the yoga poses themselves do not change, over time your relationship to them will.
YOUR FIRST CLASS
Wear comfortable clothing. We ask you be mindful of other students by not wearing perfume or other fragrance. Traditionally yoga is practiced on an empty stomach, 1-2 hours after a light snack and 3-4 hours after a heavy meal. Advise the teacher if you have any preexisting or current injuries or if you are pregnant. Bring your own yoga mat if you have one. We have studio mats and many props available for you to use as well. If you'd like to use a blanket you're welcome to bring one.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that no matter your age or ability, everyone can benefit from yoga. It can be used to manage stress, recover from injuries or improve health and fitness. It can give one a philosophical perspective of life, bring tranquillity and mental strength.
