The classes are in a nice, calming studio in Maretta's home, which makes everything feel cozy. All the students are friendly and welcoming, it's like a little yoga family. There are a few levels of classes taught, so there are options for anyone from a total novice to an intermediate student.

Maretta also gives special attention to pranayama (breathing), and we start every class with some breathing exercises -- it really puts body and mind in the right place to begin class. We also end with another brief pranayama exercise. I really feel pranayama is just as integral to yoga as the poses (and of course, helps you do the poses better), so the time we spend on this is a big draw for me.

Amazing yoga practice

I have been attending classes for almost four years at TriYoga East Hyde Park. As mentioned by one of the other reviewers, this is not the typical gym yoga but a much more holistic yoga approach and experience. Classes are small (6-8 persons max) which allows for individual corrections and support by the teacher. Each class lasts between 90 and 100 minutes and are very reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the practice. Maretta is a very encouraging teacher, she offers classes on at least 3 different levels (basics, level 1 and level 2). This yoga practice is great for anybody new to yoga but also motivating and challenging for more experienced students.

The Real Deal

This is not a gym yoga class. This is a complete yoga practice that combines the breath, mental focus, and asana practice. It is sweet and lovely, challenging and strengthening. Maretta is a gifted instructor with many years of teaching experience. She continues to deepen her own practice, while imparting the knowledge she has acquired along the way. TriYoga is for seekers. I always leave class feeling lighter on my feet and open in my heart. Highly recommended for the curious and seasoned alike.

Thanks to Kaliji!

Thanks, Angela, for your kind words. I'm highly appreciative. TriYoga is so special and full of insights and challenges that are deeply meaningful, for those who are ready for them. TriYoga is true to the origins of classic Yoga and the Yoga Sutras, not distracted by the many temptations from the modern world. :) I thank Kaliji for bringing it to us with dedication and love!
