Yamuna Yoga developed out of Yamuna's 40 years of Hatha Yoga practice and her development of a hands-on practice called Yamuna Body Logic, and a self help practice called Yamuna Body Rolling. Yamuna uses the support of balls towards mastery of the classic asanas. Her focus is on alignment, and focusing on opening the lines of energy in each pose while being supported by balls to allow you to work towards mastery with ease and prevent injury. The work starts with foundational foot work to align the feet and increase foot function, flexibility and strength. From here the standing poses are worked to begin to learn how to ground in the feet and bring the energy up through the body. Then seated poses are initiated to open the hips and connect the energy up from the feet through the pelvis up the spine using the breath as the connecting force for moving energy. Backward bends, and twists and inversions are then added. There is also a very powerful breathing work that goes with the Yamuna Yoga practice.
