When Yoga Path opened I thought it would just be a center for yoga teacher training. However, the bold reality of rent payments had other plans for the space; and I’m glad it did. The offering of general classes has become a place where those intimidated by the prospect of “touching their toes” can also embrace the community of yoga practitioners. It is becoming a place where teachers can spread their wings and explore new ways to offer their gifts.
Because Yoga Path is rooted in the lineage of yoga therapy, the classes reflect an atmosphere of compassion that opens the individual to taking their time and safely exploring physical limitations, mental chatter, and relying on a deepening awareness of innate wisdom. I have never felt comfortable in studios where the pace was fast, the dress was fashionable, and the goal was to sweat. That is not to say that the classes don’t provide a challenge; it is to say that the challenges met are encouraged on an individual basis. The classes are led by myself, student-teachers and graduates of the yoga teacher training program at Yoga Path. It is ingrained in the minds of the teachers that not everyone needs the same practice, and not everyone benefits from the same variation of poses and breathing techniques. This specialized approach has attracted students interested in a mindful approach to yoga that supports overall health and well-being.
