Yoga for Amputees is a training for yoga teachers, occupational therapists, yoga therapists, social workers, prosthetists, physical therapists, sports rehab doctors, amputees and anyone working with amputees. In this workshop participants will learn Types of amputation and reasons for amputation, basic physical(major muscle groups and nerves affected), psychological and emotional effects of amputation(5 stages of grief), observation skills for range of motion, how to safely adapt yoga poses to above, below and upper extremity amputees, and creative visualization techniques for wholeness. Amputees make up 2.5 million people in the US, with 56,000 new cases every month. Over 1,000 amputees have returned from the war in Iraq. Yoga for Amputees offers both a lifeline of recovery from limb loss as well as possibility and reconnection to the Self. Yoga for Amputees is taught by Marsha Therese Danzig, herself a below knee amputee. She has been teaching yoga since 1998.
