Since his youth in Europe, Adnan Tahirovic has been learning, practising, and professionally competing in karate, kickboxing, and Thai boxing. While in France, he became a student of and received invaluable continual mentoring from Dominique Valera, the great martial arts master.
These decades of rigorous training and competition left Adnan with serious knee problems, but also rewarded him with life-changing discoveries. He realized that for many years he had been mostly focusing on the external sensations of strength and velocity. He also recognized that he had felt most driven and complete when sharing his knowledge with others.
It was then that Adnan embarked on a journey of the study and teaching of yoga. For a number of years he was taking private classes with Marcia Solomon who now teaches at the Richard Freeman's Yoga Workshop in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Ultimately, Richard Freeman became Adnan’s teacher and mentor. Additionally, Adnan took numerous workshops with internationally acclaimed yoga teachers such as David Swenson, Eric Schiffman, Donna Farhi, David Life, and John Friend.
This background and Adnan’s profound knowledge and understanding of human body and its movement have served him well as he developed into an expert practitioner of therapeutic yoga. Adnan's particular strength is the attention he pays to a precise body alignment because only a good alignment guaranties a sound yoga practice that one may enjoy for years and years.
Adnan is E-RYT 500 certified. He is a former co-owner of the Santosha Yoga studio in Ottawa, Canada. He published a book, Yoga Supreme Art of Living, as well as numerous articles, including Yoga and Martial Arts, which appeared in the Yoga Magazine, UK edition. He taught Ashtanga, Power, Vinyasa Flow, and Yoga Therapy, focusing his classes on a correct and precise body alignment.
In 2000, in addition to his previous qualifications, Adnan obtained a Shiatsu and Swedish massage therapist diploma. Combining a deep knowledge of human anatomy with the massage techniques, he has helped many people to achieve a better physical health.
Adnan’s focus on self-improvement and his desire to deepen his ability to heal himself and others brought him to Taiwan where he spent four years, working as a Director of Yoga Program for Alexander Group (TA Yoga May 2007- November 20007), and a Senior Teacher for Space Yoga (January 2008 – January 2011).
While in Asia, Adnan taught workshops, intensives, teacher trainings, and retreats in Taiwan, China, and Thailand. During his years in Taipei, Adnan was the most published foreign yoga teacher. Additionally, he studied the art of Tui na massage-Chinese medical massage and structural alignment techniques-with the renowned Dr. Lin Zhong Hsien.
Since the beginning of 2011, Adnan lives, practises, and teaches public, private, and teacher training classes in Ottawa, Canada. Authentic and precise in his teaching, Adnan lays a solid foundation and progressively refines each of the asanas. His sense of humor and compassion shine through as his dynamic and challenging teaching style moves his students beyond their perceived limits.
In 2014, after completing five years program at the Quebec College of Osteopathy, Adnan obtained a diploma in Osteopathy-a therapeutic system based on manipulation of muscles, bones and internal organs to promote structural integrity and restores or preserves health.
