Alex Schatzberg began practicing yoga after moving from California to New York City to attend New York University. Having grown up hiking all over Northern California, Alex felt a major disconnect with Nature after moving to the city environment. Practicing yoga quickly became the best way for him to access the feeling of peace and bliss experienced when in nature.
Alex’s teaching is informed by 10 years of yoga practice in New York City. After exploring many different modalities, he fell in love with the Ashtanga system and is teaching Ashtanga Yoga as guide for developing a holistic lifestyle. He believes the benefits of Yoga not only enhance our current existence, but reach beyond our time spent in this material body.
Alex is grateful to all the teachers he has encountered for guiding him down this path, especially the ones who have had the strongest impact on his vision of yoga: Guy Donahye, Ruth Lauer-Manenti, Rima Rabbath, Greg Gumucio, Beverly and Euegen Gregan.
Yoga teaches us that it is the people we surround ourselves with who influence who we become. It is the support of his parents, friends, students, colleagues and teachers which has kept Alex enthusiastic about teaching and inspired him to direct his energy towards helping others through sharing the practice of Yoga and the experience of nature.
