Founder and one of the many directors of Ashtanga Yoga Montreal, Allison Ulan has been a practitioner and enthusiast of yoga since 1988. In 1992, she discovered the Ashtanga Yoga method and it’s profound method captured her heart. In 2000, she began traveling to Mysore, India to study annually with the founder of Ashtanga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. He authorized her to teach the Ashtanga form in its traditional approach in 2004. She is deeply grateful for having studied under and known him as a teacher and friend. Guruji was a person of great compassion and wisdom.
Along side her studies in Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga, Allison has been studying and integrating vipassana meditation and Ayurveda into her personal practise and classes. She instructs weekly classes and specialized workshops/teacher trainings in asana, pranayama and meditation. Participants have found her approach humorous, informed and always heart-centered. Plus, students find her anatomical approach to teaching accessible and educational.
Her aim is to offer a mindful and enriching approach to Yoga through it’s diverse and intelligent techniques. Her classes aid each person to discover what correct combination of exercise, meditation, nutrition and rest works for them.

Her past activities and degrees: BFA in Dance from the Juilliard School of Performing Arts, performer in dance companies across North America, a 20-year career in contemporary dance, Yoga certificates with Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, Richard Freeman, Mary Dunn and the Kripalu Yoga Center, Certified Ayurvedic Treatment Specialist and an ardent student of vipassana meditation (IMS).
