As a yoga teacher and health coach Anthea loves to work with people in all aspects of yoga, nutrition and wellness. Teaching and coaching seem to come naturally to her, purely out of a desire to share what she is learning. Anthea aims to apply the wisdom of yoga and Ayurveda to modern day life, to help people make diet and lifestyle changes that will allow them to experience true health and vitality.

Anthea discovered Ashtanga Yoga in 2007 and never looked back. This led to a trip to Thailand in 2008 for her very first yoga retreat at the old Yoga Thailand center. Over time her practice has grown and evolved to include pranayama in the Kaivalyadhama tradition, mantra, meditation and most recently yin yoga. In 2010 Anthea completed Centered Yoga Teacher Training with Paul Dallaghan and returned regularly since then for Continuing Education Trainings such as Pranayama & Philosophy with Paul & Sri Tiwari and Female Anatomy with Arielle.

Anthea initially began her teaching career in a corporate environment in Ireland, where she is from, before branching out to studios and outdoor community yoga. In 2012 she left the corporate world to immerse herself in yoga practices, nutrition studies and to gain experience teaching yoga and Reiki. She spent two years between Bali, Thailand and India before joining the Samahita Retreat teaching team in 2013. Anthea is also the center’s Director of Communications & Programs.

Advanced my Yoga Practice more than any other teacher!!

I never had the good fortune to practice yoga with Anthea, but she has done more to advance my Yoga practice than any teacher I’ve met.
Over the past 5 months or so, Anthea has been working with me to help change my eating habits with a view to improving my Ashtanga Yoga Practice.

For most of my life my diet has been full of cheese, Baguettes, milk chocolate bars, lots and lots of sugary foods and plenty of snacks in between (there was some healthy food in there too I promise!)
Slowly and without any judgement whatsoever she has helped me take notice of these unhealthy eating patterns and gradually change and evolve them little by little so that now I have a diet that feels so natural and right and actually feels “easy” and fun to me. I love experimenting with healthy recipes from the tonnes of recipes and blog links she has so generously provided. (saying Anthea is generous with sharing knowledge is an understatement, prepare to get LOTS of quality material on nutrition after each consultation!) There is no bad or good here, just an individualized approach fine tuned based on your make up and constitution and what you actually like to eat!, she has a gift for finding what works best for someone and it’s lasting change she helps provide here, hence the 6-month’s, this stuff takes a while to take root as a permanent habit for daily life!
I shudder now reading back over my food diary from those first few weeks. Besides a bonus of losing around 15lb’s and arriving at my ideal weight for the first time in over a decade, I’m now eating a more sattvic diet, 3 meal’s a day, snacking is pretty much gone, wheat has gone from being a staple food to something I very rarely eat, I had never realized there were so many tasty alternatives, sugar and dairy are foods i rarely indulge in these days anymore, of course i still have them on occasion, we're not talking about some 90's fad diet here where you yo-yo about, there's still room for some treats. My diet is now a lot more sattvic, ight, simple, full of nourishing foods that are alive and in season. Needless to say my Ashtanga practice has improved enormously as a result. I feel lighter in my body, happier in the morning and more able to practice early before work, postures i strugged with for a long time are coming now.. Anthea also helped me realize my dream of a 6-day ashtanga mysore practice which I’d been chasing for several years but always eluded me until now, probably in large part due to diet and discipline.
Anthea’s just a good person, she’s generous, authentic, non dogmatic, non judgemental, funny, easy going, strong, consistent and confident in herself, basically everything you want in a teacher, Yoga or otherwise.
She is balanced in her approach and has a genuine gift and rare passion for passing on knowledge. The accountability she provided was a huge help during the first hurdles where I was tempted to revert to habits which were not working for me. She has a knack for getting you to follow through without being at all pushy, she makes it fun and before you know it, voila, you’re almost there!. She walks her talk and is a great example of what can be achieved when you put the ideas of good food, good Yoga and clean living together in an intelligent way.
She also prepared me for and then led me through an intense remote 7-day detox (my first but not my last) that i simply could not have gotten through without her strong daily support. The lightness and easy feeling I felt at the end of this detox is something I don't want to forget. Investing in this 6-month coaching program is one of the best investments i’ve ever made for my health and my Yoga Practice.
If you ever do get the opportunity to work 1 on 1 with Anthea for a coaching program, for the love of God take it!!!

I have had the great fortune to share time with Anthea a couple of times whilst we were both deepening our own personal studies in Bali. She is light hearted, humorous and very dedicated to her passions and sharing these, I would not hesitate in recommending Anthea as a teacher of yoga or a consultant of health and wellness to anyone wishing for such guidance. :)

Anthea is very real and sincere and has a nice sense of humour, which helps gain confidence and overcome insecurities during practising yoga. I was sure I would never be able to do half moon pose and i managed it after she explained me how to do it.

Irish charm and yoga

Anthea is a lovely relaxed teacher. Being Irish, she has a great sense of humour and throws in many funny comments (well funny to another Irish person anyway!) as she teaches. She loves her yoga and has a very practical and balanced approach to it herself and in her teaching. I very much enjoyed her guidance and direction during her classes. I hope I get the chance to do yoga with her again soon.
