Babu Rao is the founder & director of KASYAPA Inc. and the Canadian Centre for Yoga Therapy and Research. He is one of the founding members of the Advanced Yoga Therapy Centre at NIMHANS, where he specialized in Neuro-cognitive assessments, Cognitive Retraining and Yoga Therapy for Mental Health. He is a former faculty member in Yoga therapy for SVYASA and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore, India. Since 2010, he is an adjunct faculty member at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Toronto, Canada, in the Continuing Education Dept, where he teaches a course entitled The Basics Yoga Therapy for doctors, medical students and other healthcare practitioners and also serves as a preceptor in his area of expertise for Naturopathic Medical Students. He currently works in collaboration with the CAMH (Centre for Addictions and Mental health) and York University, Toronto in the area of applied Yoga Therapy and Mental Health.
Babu Rao comes from a traditional South Indian Siddha family lineage of Kaśyapa and was formally educated at the renowned Gurukulam. At the age of seven he began his training in the system of Siddha medicine and Yoga with his father and became a Siddha Vaidya (doctor) at the age of twenty by family tradition. During this time, he became skilled in the recognition and application of hundreds of indigenous herbs and their traditional methods of preparation and application as well as mastering a variety of traditional esoteric Yoga practices.
He continued his studies of Yoga at the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha and he obtained a Master’s degree in Yogic Science from Mangalore University where he was awarded the Gold Medal Award for the highest academic achievements. His knowledge and practical application of the Yoga was further refined with his Guru in the Himalayas in the classical style of Cave Yoga for over a decade, in Tapovan. He has treated thousands patients worldwide applying Āyurveda, Siddha Medicine, and Yoga Therapy.
