Barbara Kaplan has been studying yoga and meditation since 1978 and teaching since 1989. In 1991, she received her Teacher Training certificate at The Yoga Room in Berkeley and was certified as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. Throughout 2002, Barbara wrote the Beginners Column in Yoga Journal and has published feature articles on the chakras and “Yoga for Good Digestion.” She appeared in three Yoga Journal calendars (1996, 1997, 1998). She studied somatic psychology at the graduate level, is a trained hospice volunteer, and is an ongoing student at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and the Diamond Heart/Ridhwan School.
Barbara teaches Yin Yoga, Vinyasa, Iyengar Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Yoga and the Chakras. Within the flow of Barbara’s classes, she interweaves Yogic philosophy and Buddhist psychology, knowledge about the healing qualities of each asana, and her understanding of the chakras. She has found that this approach strikes a strong chord in both beginning and advanced students and sets her instruction apart from approaches focused only on the physical aspects of yoga.
Barbara teaches workshops throughout the world and also has regular public and private classes in Berkeley, California.
