I have been practicing daily in this incarnation since October 2009. I began teaching in 2012 shortly after Jivamukti Teacher Training after 2 years of developing my personal practice daily. I have been blessed to study with my close teachers in Charleston, SC Jeffrey Cohen and Andrea Boyd and their teachers David Life and Sharon Gannon. I feel a great connection and love for the latex Shyamdas whom I was able to study with several times. I have been fortunate to spent quality time with Krishna Das, Sharon Salzberg, Jai Utta. I have deepened my study with Ram Dass and most recently, I have met my next teacher Yogarupa (Rod Stryker). I am sure there are more that I have failed to mention but I am blow away by this gift of teachings and bow humbly at the feet of all these teachers.
I teach Jivamukti yoga at the center in Charleston, SC 3 or 4 times a week. And when I am not teaching or practicing, I am running Sleeping Organic, a business that I started in 2007. My primarily focus in my classes is how we can take the classical teachings of yoga and use them to create a purposeful and meaningful life. Trying to find the ideal balance between the spiritual and the physical. I feel that a yoga class is incomplete without asana, pranayama and meditation so these components are in every class I teach.
I am far from perfect but try my best to continue to grow and work through my karmic patterns. I work privately with students that have a daily practice, meaning 4-5 times a week. These students are typically at the point where they need more than there daily 75 minutes in the yoga room. We work to deepen and develop our practices as our needs and tapas(heat of change) is always changing. These usually include a personalized meditation and pranayama program then into deeper layers of self study and reflection.

Kind, Playful, and Challenging Teacher

Brandon Maxey is a special yoga teacher. He is funny and playful yet can be serious and demanding. He is deeply committed to practicing what he teaches which makes you want to listen to what he has to say. He often starts his class with an insight, story, lesson, etc. He plays good music. He chants mantra. And he has a very strong understanding of asana sequencing and alignment, so his classes are challenging and he gives helpful adjustments. He has a very relaxing vibe, so it's nice just to be around Brandon. And if you are lucky enough to get a savasana assist, you will end his class feeling like melted butter (or earth balance...).
