Always physically active, Brian began his yoga journey in a rather unconventional way in early 2014. He was using an at-home DVD workout program with a yoga component. Brian found the yoga DVD to be especially challenging and decided to try a real class, which happened to be at Breathe N Flow. Brian was immediately hooked and jumped into all that yoga had to offer with both feet.
After diving into his yoga full-time during summer vacation (practicing 2 – 3 times a day), Brian completed his 200 hour yoga teacher training in December 2014, under the tutelage and guidance of Leah Hartofelis at Breathe N Flow Yoga Studio in Freeport, NY. Leah was one of Brian’s original teachers and helped truly guide and navigate him along his yoga journey. Brian is forever grateful to her for her knowledge, guidance, support, and belief in him. Brian has also completed a Yin training and certification with Corina Benner in February 2015.
Upon graduation from teacher training, his love of yoga only grew deeper, taking workshop with his fellow teacher trainers around the NY area and beyond as well as checking out as many different studios and teachers as his schedule would allow him to gain more knowledge to share with his students and deepen his own personal practice. Brian is enthusiastic to explore and share all the benefits that yoga has to offer, as well as trying to get more men and athletes involved in this wonderful practice and lifestyle. Brian’s classes tend to have a focus on core work, while also incorporating a faster flow as well as a cardio component (and maybe even a little humor and laughter). His classes are accessible for beginners all the way through experienced practitioners, offering modifications as well as employing the use of props to meet the needs of all his students.
In addition to teaching yoga, Brian has taught Social Studies and Anthropology at Long Beach High School for 11 years. In 2003, he graduated from Siena College with a in History, and in 2005 obtained his in Secondary Education from Adelphi University. Originally, Brian took the teacher training to expand his knowledge of yoga with no intention of teaching yoga but found a natural fit of teaching yoga because of his love of teaching high school. Brian is also an active fitness enthusiast who participates in 5ks, Spartan and other obstacle type races, cycling, cooking, travel, and loves live music.
