A deep workout for body and mind - with Brigit Hegarty
There is one thing that I have observed in life. Everyone, in one way or another, is searching for happiness. So how do we achieve optimal happiness? And what is happiness? Happiness is a state of being, a state of mind. So how do we have a happy state of mind? Through connection of the ‘self’. And how do we connect? This is the key.
So this is where yoga comes in.
A process to allow your body to engage in physical terms, using your co-ordination, muscles, strength and exploring flexibility on a deep level. Through this process your body begins to allow your mind to relax. Then, when you become more relaxed on a subconscious level you are receptive and ready to connect, with what and who you really are.
So by connecting to this true sense of existence with asanas (yoga postures) pranayama (breathing exercise), yoganidra (relaxation) and samayana (meditation) we can begin to experience our true being. We also explore mudra (hand gestures), puja (energy transmission) and kriya (purification).
My first yoga experience was at the age of four when my mother took me along to her class. This instilled a deep appreciation of what yoga is and what it can do for you. Please see my website for more information
