I am Camie Garvey, owner and instructor, and always a student. I am truly passionate about yoga. After many years of struggling with weight and lack of self- worth, I found a place, a home on my mat where at times I go to fall apart and other times I go to be put back together; a space of clarity, connection, and calmness.
I started yoga to lose weight. And as I started to lose weight, I found myself becoming physically, mentally, and spiritually stronger. I started to believe that I was good enough. My main reason for becoming a yoga instructor is because I want to inspire people to want to feel better about themselves. I was at an emotional and physical rock-bottom, angry, overweight and disconnected. Today, at this very moment, I have lost over 160 pounds in the past 8 years and have shed not just physical weight but also the weight of unhappiness.
I earned my ERYT 200 (experienced registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance) and am currently finishing my RYT 500 at Alpha Omega in Dallas, TX. I have studied under Tias and Surya Little at Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe, NM. I have attended many workshops and will continue to further my education. I worked at Sage Yoga for 3 years and was able to have the privilege of studying under Meghan Gjone . In the early fall of 2015 I started teaching yoga in my home and the growth of the classes went above and beyond my dreams. I wanted to provide a safe, nurturing, beautiful space for people to move their bodies and connect to their breath. The yogis and teacher needed more! Thus leading to Abilene Yoga House…Cultivating a home in a studio where we can come together as a community. My intention is to inspire you. I am driven to teach classes where I can educate my students in alignment, attunement, kindness, compassion for yourself as well as others, safety, and fun.
