Yoga has been an important part of my life for a long time; I have been studying Yoga in it's various forms for the past 15 years. During this time I have been overwhelmed with the continued significant benefits of my personal practice: I have a deeper sense of connection with my mind, body and self.
I had the ambition of becoming a Yoga teacher for many years. In 2012 I decided it was my time to follow my dreams and embarked upon a rigorous two year intensive teacher training course with the Yoga Academy, a British Wheel of Yoga accredited course. From the day I taught my first class I realised that I had made the right decision; I absolutely love teaching.
The teacher training I received has taught me the importance of safe teaching practice, consideration of individual needs, being true to yourself, and respect.
Prior to my teacher training I suffered with lower back pain for many years. Despite this, I continued to push my own boundaries with my body, being a naturally flexible person. After studying the anatomy and physiology of the human body, alongside asana (Yoga poses), and realising the differences between strength and natural flexibility, I found that aspects of my earlier Yoga practice were actually exacerbating my pain.
I have now respectfully changed my practice, consider the function of asana, have more awareness and feeling about my body, and consequently have no lower back pain. This knowledge and process translates through my teaching.
I now teach full-time in the heart of the English Lake District, which enables me to teach in a number of beautiful settings. I enjoy my regular classes at the Footprint Building in Windermere, and Parish Centre in Ambleside, alongside 1:1's, after school club at the local primary school, and private groups. My private group classes extend to Keswick and even down to Ulverston.
I consider myself a student of Yoga, and always will be: there will always be so much for me to learn, feel and explore. I continue to attend workshops and teacher training sessions and self-study.
I have been fortunate to have worked with, be taught by and trained by a number of amazing teachers over the years, all of whom have inspired me in different ways. I thank you all.
