Since I began practising yoga eight years ago, it has been the red line that has ran through many changes in my life. Through an ongoing exploration of this ancient practice that in physical terms is simply breath and movement, I have grown tremendously appreciating of my body, learnt to live without constant worry, and allow vulnerability. Mainly practising Ashtanga for the majority of the eight years, I now incorporate other practices and movement into my personal practice, which has filtered through to my teaching. There is great benefit to be had in dedicating oneself to a system, yet I see how there is great empowerment in practising according to the needs of the moment.

And so I’m always a student, and in a class setting, I’m simply showing students what I have learnt through my own practice and wonderful teachers from yoga and other areas of movement and life. My teaching experience includes classes of beginners, elite athletes, one-to-ones, school children, and of course, my mum! Anyone can practise yoga, all we need to do is breathe and roll out the mat.

As someone who does not frequently attend yoga classes and is a complete novice Charlenes classes are perfect. They move at a pace that is easy to follow, movements and poses are demonstrated and explained clearly and I can join in without feeling at all self conscious that I am not as advanced as other students. Charlene is welcoming and professional, i thoroughly reccomend her classes.

Great teacher

Charlene has taught me one to one sessions focusing on balance and core strength since I suffered an injury on my spine in 2012. The sessions have been tailored to suit my abilities and needs, and although I am a beginner and have physical limitations Charlene is keen to drive me to exceed my own expectations. A highly recommended teacher!!!

An approachable, natural teacher

I have been one of Charlene's students for three years now. Previous to this, I knew her socially. Being taught by a friend could feel uncomfortable, as it is a different relationship to the one you are accustomed to. Not in this case. Charlene is a natural tutor, leading without being commanding (despite a full lesson plan, in class Charlene often stresses that this is YOUR yoga, not HER yoga), confident but humble, light hearted without being giddy (something that would be very easy to do when teaching friends) and intervening but not interfering. Explanations and demonstrations are clear and precise. She is a warm, spiritual person with and this makes Charlene very approachable. I love the classes and her teaching style.
