My name is Charles Torres, I am a yogi and this is my story: Drifting without purpose, by my mid-20s, I'd become horribly out of shape, adding several inches to my waistline. I was motivated to lose weight, but at the beginning, yoga was only a secondary portion of my training regimen. Through a lot of hard work, I was able to lose more than 40 pounds over the course of one year-- and keep it off-- but something was missing. I was physically fit, but unhappy. When I first began, I believed yoga was just of the physical practice, I was inspired by arm balancing and all of the strength oriented aspects of the practice. I didn't make the connection between my physical well being and mental well-being until I delved deeper into every aspect of the yoga practice with my first 200 hour yoga teacher training at Yoga Six. Honestly, I dove into the experience not knowing what to expect besides getting the yoga-teaching certificate. But when I stepped into the space, a real transformation began. The space was offered to me for growth and I was able to analyze huge aspects of my life that I needed to reflect on, to understand WHY I felt the way I did. The net result is I'm more physically fit and happier than I have ever been and my practice continues to deepen day by day because there is ALWAYS something new to learn. I meet new teachers on a regular basis and they teach me something new about myself at every given opportunity. The journey never ends and I am at its will, as long as I lead with good intention and an open mind, I know things will find their own ways and balance out.
