Cheryl McKenzie is British born and was raised in South East London. She has made her home in Canada within Ontario for the last 25 years.
A former television and radio producer for Citytv, MuchMusic and it's multi platform channels and stations and as a active music industry manager, in her personal quest for peace and healing she found a home in the practice of yoga where she learned the art of finding stillness and peace in an otherwise busy, hectic and unpredictable world.
After practicing Ashtanga yoga at the world renowned Downward Dog studio in Toronto and at the gentle prodding of one of her teacher's, Ted Grand owner and founder of Moksha Yoga, she made the decision to study for her first yoga teacher certification. She became a Hatha trained and certified yoga instructor in the traditional styles of BKS Iyengar 2010. Soon afterwards Cheryl immersed herself completely in the study of Yin Yoga and began teaching this branch of yoga extensively starting in 2010 to present. She then expanded her yoga practice further by obtaining her second yoga teacher certification in 2012 in the traditional style and lineage of Pattabhi Jois and continued the study of Yin Yoga and its five elements under Cathy Keenan soon afterwards.
Cheryl is also a teacher and Reiki Master in the Usui method of energy healing and attuned to the Violet Flame Reiki Master Level. She has been teaching and certifying Reiki practitioner's in energetic healing with intuitive teachings since 2012.
Cheryl teaches Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Core Yoga and Beginner Yoga and studies, practices and teaches other Yogic disciplines with a special focus on the practice of Yin Yoga and Yoga for Children with Special Needs. She has taught yoga for parents and their children both in and out of schools and yoga for the mentally ill by volunteering within the community.
She also creates and lead workshops across Ontario and within Quebec and facilitates classes in yoga, meditation and Reiki studies for special interest groups and community events on behalf of Durham Region and the GTA.
Cheryl is an accredited E500 RYT yoga teacher with both the Canadian Yoga Alliance and the international yoga body, Yoga Alliance. Her classes are personally and intuitively tuned to suit each individual or group to actively revitalize the body and mind, release stress and increase energy both pranic (breath) and chi (energy) in nature, to promote an overall and regular feeling of well-being both on the inside and out by gently co-facilitating the students potential whole body-mind-spirit healing experience.
She invites you to join the adventure of life in her classes - to lose the fear of just 'being' and to find your own centre in perceived chaos through your own breath.
