Christine Lamothe is a yoga teacher, breaking (break dance), and group fitness instructor based in Canada’s eastern Arctic city of Iqaluit. Devoted to helping Nunavut become a happy, healthy place, Christine’s contagious optimism inspires many. She is passionate about people, movement, healing and contributing to her community. She believes in experiencing everything that life has to offer and to trust your inner voice to lead the way.
Early in her break dancing career, Christine sustained several injuries. This led her to seek complimentary and healing activities. In 1998 a friend introduced her to Bikram Yoga. Matching her high energy personality, dance and yoga were the perfect combination allowing her to find a healthy and balanced lifestyle; creating astonishing improvements in her flexibility, stamina and deepening her connection to her body, mind and ultimately her spirit.
Bikram Yoga classes opened Christine’s eyes to the world of yoga and meditation, which she found fascinating. She since has immersed herself in to a number of styles including Kundalini, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Vipassana Meditation and Yin Yoga. In 2011, she became a certified yoga teacher accredited with Yoga Alliance which now allows her to share the practices that have deeply impacted her life. She currently specializes in Vinyasa Flow, Envision Yoga and Yin.
Christine is known throughout the Bboy/Bgirl (break dance culture) community and especially around Nunavut as Lil*Bear. Anywhere there music is, you can bet Lil*Bear will be around shaking things up in a dance circle!
Christine brings years of practice, training, and experience to everything she does. From teaching yoga, fitness, and dance classes, all of which she has been refining since 1998. She graduated from the Recreation Facility Management Program at Algonquin College in 2006, became a certified fitness instructor specialist 2009 with Can-Fit-Pro, and has also received a wide variety of certifications. Over the years, Christine has taught thousands of people; assisting them in defining their uniqueness and cultivating a deeper connection to their body and spirit.
Her numerous travels to Nunavut’s remote communities as physical activity specialist and as dance and yoga teacher has allowed Christine to tailor her teaching style to be considerate, inclusive, and welcoming. All the while being spirited, fun and revitalizing for all. Her most momentous project yet is now in the works; to build and manage Nunavut’s first Wellness center, Saimavik Studio, and help create an inner and outer Place of Happiness for all to enjoy!
