As of Dec 2015 I am devoting my efforts full time to the study, practice and teaching of yoga. Ashtanga Yoga forms the foundation of my work. I practice Ashtanga Mysore daily as a means of not only supporting my own practice, but also to become better informed, through direct experience, of the asanas and their effect on our physical, energetic, spiritual, emotional and intellectual bodies. My classes are focused on the application of Ashtanga principles of foundation, central axis (sushumna nadi), breath, bandhas and gaze (drishti) to facilitate safe, strong, and grounded asana (postures), pranayama (breath control), and dhyana (mind control).
Prior to Dec 2015, I taught part time while maintaining a full time position with the US Food & Drug Administration in a management/international policy for food safety position. My educational background includes BS, MS, and PhD degrees in food science and I intend to continue to use that knowledge to inform and motivate within the yoga community around food issues of importance to animal, human and environmental wellbeing.
Certifications
200 hour from Flow Yoga Center (2008) + 300 hour Jivamukti (2008) + countless hours of self-study and continuing study with David Life and Sharon Gannon, Jill Abelson, Andrea Boyd, Alanna Kaivalya, and more.
In 2016 I completed Tim Miller's 100 hour Ashtanga 2nd Series training and David Garrigues's 100 teacher program in Arizona, plus an additional 500 hours of study with David in 2016 and many more hours through Feb 2019. I don't believe good teaching comes through certifications, it comes through commitment to practice and that has been my focus for nearly 2 decades.
