David Swenson is one of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. He began practicing Hatha yoga at a very early age, inspired by his older brother. David's introduction to Ashtanga came in 1973 when he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, California. Soon he would meet K. Pattabhi Jois, the Ashtanga master, with who he learned the full Ashtanga system as it was originally taught.
In his recent visit to Barcelona, we attended his amazing workshop at the Yogaone Studio. During the whole weekend he shared with us not only his incredible physical practice but also his values as a true yogi. His teaching style is accurate to the tradition system as well as tolerant to integrate the variations needed in order to make the Ashtanga practice accessible to everyone. David’s classes go far beyond the asana practice, he gives us real insights as to what yoga means and how it can help us be a better person. We were very touched by his accessible, loving and caring style: simple, pure, authentic, modest. During his interview with us, he said something that deeply resonated with us: “a yogi is someone who leaves a place a little nicer than when they arrived”.
Although he is based in Austin, Texas, David teaches around the world, visit his website to check out his calendar.
