Dawn has over 20 years experience in the study, practice and love of yoga and meditation with instruction in Iyengar, Hatha, Sivananda, Vinyasa styles, with great teachers like Philip Urso, Barrie Riseman, Leslie Bishop & Maxine Munro. She began yoga with David Thomas of Vital Health Iyengar Yoga in Halifax and marathon training in 1993, knowing the running would fall away but not the yoga. The genuine pursuit of self realization is a most significant step on one's path. Bringing the mind and body to reveal your true nature. Often yoga is thought to be a practice of postures, yet this is 1 of the 8 limbs of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Yoga is a path for freeing the heart/mind.

Dawn is also a certified Meditation Instructor, currently offering instruction at Shambhala Meditation Centers. Her main teacher is Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, a Tibetian Vajrayana Master. She has also studied with Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Dzongsar Kyyentse Rinpoche and Pema Chodron.

Currently Dawn is continuing study in Shambhala Buddhism, Yoga Teacher Training TAYS, Yoga Sutras, Non Violent Communication & Death Awareness.

We need more teaching like this!

Dawn is so wonderful! Her workshops are professional and well put-together and her teaching is informative yet down-to-earth. She is a lovely teacher and someone that I would gladly have back at my studio anytime. I look forward to taking and hosting more workshops and programs with Dawn in the future.

Dawn - An amazing Yoga Instructor

Dawn's class is a must! If you are looking for Yoga or something more specific, I.e., Yoga Peri-menopausal or Menopausal symptoms, you found the right person. You can see and hear the passion Dawn has for what she does. She makes everyone feel welcome and she goes out of her way to make you feel like you are receiving one on one Yoga. She is very aware of safety and will only push you to where you can go - never push you beyond what your body is capable.


I am not experienced at Yoga and there are usually more experienced people in the room; however, I never feel self-conscious. Dawn helps you understand that you are there for a reason and experienced or not, you always feel good. If you are having menopausal symptoms, check our her class! I have enjoyed every class and every minute.

Dawn Carson Shines

Dawn used intelligence and humour to lead us through some difficult territory. I found her sequence took me deep. I left with a feeling I have a better understanding of the changes in my body ad how to use yoga to recreate a better balance in this new reality.
