Debi Hendra started yoga over 20 years ago in London, after a childhood of gymnastics and dance, she realised there was a lack of awareness, a need to breath more deeply and focus into the heart. Her work as a writer had taken her around the world, followed by intense years heading up a fashion label, she was ready to take her yoga practise further and live beyond a material lifestyle. In early 2004 she finally headed to India in search of a teacher where she completed her first teacher training in Hatha Yoga spending six months immersing herself in the birth place of yoga. Since then, she has studied extensively and continues to do so regularly, with John Scott, Peter Sanson and Sharath Jois, Director of the Ashtanga Institute in Mysore India to explore the Ashtanga tradition and now shares this passion and depth with students at The Heart Center and on workshops around the country.
In 2014 with the blessing of her teachers, she released the first Ashtanga Yoga for Pregnancy DVD, for other mums-to-be to continue their practise safely and confidently through their journey into motherhood and beyond. For the past 12 years, Debi has built a reputation as an experienced, heart centred teacher, both gentle and strong. The Heart Center is the culmination of this experience – a dream that has flourished with a purpose-built studio opened in September 2010 offering Taupo students a fully equipped and dedicated space close to town. 2010 also saw the development of a Yoga Alliance registered mentoring programme, offering students in-depth training over an extended period. Debi now teaches both students and teachers and more recently underprivileged teens through the police run Cactus programme. For more information please go to:
