Gabrielle Pietrangelo is a musician and singer who has been delving into the practice of yoga since 1998. She began teaching at Tucson Yoga in 2008, and received her official yoga teacher training at White Lotus Foundation under the mentorship of Ganga White and Tracey Rich. Gabrielle's hatha flow sequences are influenced by the vinyasa tradition and are balanced with the more cooling and inward poses of yin yoga. She incorporates concepts from Chinese meridian theory, chakra theory and Buddhist meditation into her classes. Her yin yoga teaching is influenced by the work of Sarah Powers and Paul Grilley, and she received her Yin Yoga Teacher Training at Tucson Yoga in 2011 with Joe Barnett and Michelle Marks.
As a published songwriter, musician and music teacher, Gabrielle gracefully weaves sound and music into her yoga practices. She incorporates both western and eastern traditions of sound, leading chants with her students and singing sacred songs during savasana. She also creates space for silence, following the wave of breath and deep listening. Her intention as a teacher is to hold the space for community asana practice, while also honoring and encouraging the internal awareness and edges of her students.
Gabrielle hosts a seasonal kirtan at Tucson Yoga, in line with the Bhakti yoga tradition of call-and-response singing and travels regionally leading kirtans at other studios. She is currently working on a music for yoga album. She is also a private music instructor in downtown Tucson, teaching voice, piano, guitar, banjo and ukelele.
