Amazing teacher

Hari's classes are exquisite. He is very in-tune and focused (both in his verbal cues and physical adjustments) on meeting the needs of each individual, yet he also maintains a wonderful flow, well-paced and most importantly, centered from a genuine place of joy and reverence for the practice. I wish my schedule allowed me to attend his classes more often -- yet I am always grateful for any opportunity to practice under his guidance. I highly recommend his teaching to any and all!

He had me with "backbend to the future"

I took a Friday lunchtime class with Hari as frequently as I could for almost a year until his schedule changed. He is the only jivamukti teacher I have ever practiced with, but I enjoyed his puns, assists and clear instruction. I was exposed to some asana that I was not used to but felt safe to try new stuff in his class. I would absolutely take his class again if it was feasible schedule/location-wise.

Nathan - thank you for your kind review and for recognizing that puns are the highest form of humor; I hope our schedules coincide again soon.

Asana as Bhakti

Hari-K is a very experienced Jivamukti yoga teacher who practices what he teaches. He is a devoted, attentive guide for students, offering spiritual considerations amidst his careful posture cues. Hari-K cares. He extends himself to students, encourages questions and his knowledge is profound. I highly recommend Hari-K for both a challenging physical class and an exploration of yogic philosophy.

wonderful teacher

Taking a class with Hari-kirtana das is a uniquely wonderful experience. Each class begins with a philosophical discussion of a selected sacred yogic text, and often includes practical and thought provoking applications to modern questions. Throughout the class, Hari-kirtana das shares precise, skillful verbal cues, as well as energetically effective hands on assists.

He weaves together a sequence that skillfully incorporates the message of the dharma talk, and provides a challenging asana flow, which is always set to a great playlist. I appreciate that he consistently provides time for meditation in class, and provides very thoughtful prompts for meditation. I often find the philosophical focus and intention cultivated during my practice infiltrating the rest of my day, which is an indication of his classes' effectiveness. Both inside and outside of class, he is extremely engaged with his students, exhibiting a genuine interest in his students' yogic journey . Hari-kirtana also contributes greatly the DC yoga community by leading a number of workshops, philosophical discussion groups, teacher trainings, and is also a masterful leader of kirtan. It is so wonderful to have him as a teacher, and to have him contributing to so many aspects of yoga practice.

excellent and down to earth!

Hari definitely makes yoga a lot more light-hearted and fun than some other instructors, which takes the pressure off the students to feel they must be a certain level of spiritualness or a certain level of physical ability. He is attentive to every student's needs and encourages them to do what they can without overdoing it. His classes are just the right amount of challenge without going overboard, but also without being boring. He takes time out after class to show individual students where they need some adjustment. Highly recommend!

Great Jivamukti instructor!

Hari is a patient and intuitive instructor, and creates a supportive environment where you can feel comfortable challenging yourself. It is this quality that ensures that Hari's classes are always as relaxing as they are intense. As a runner and triathlete I frequently struggle with muscle tightness and injury. Hari has thoughtfully tailored classes to my needs and even spent time working with me individually on specific poses to address these problems. He is a wonderful instructor to introduce you to Jivamukti yoga, or deepen your practice!

Review for Hari-kirtana Das

For months in the District of Columbia, is was near impossible to find a teacher who had a true mission and dedication to the path of yoga. Instead, many teachers have found it profitable to merge ancient wisdom into an athletic frame of mind, which is not only reckless and egocentric, but is lost in the roots of yoga. Hari's classes are very rich with a balanced display of philosophy, devotion, asana, and meditation.

It was in one of his meditation classes I was able to feel at ease with my past and fully be engaged with the present: a truly unique experience for yogis who enjoy abstract imagery. I highly recommend Hari's classes to someone seeking a spiritual path and judgment-free community. He will take the time to listen to your concerns and won't leave you hanging in an asana that will ultimately hurt you in the long run.

I liked Hari-kirtani the moment I stepped into his class

Hari is warm and friendly with a good sense of humor -- and substantial experience. If someone has a question about a yoga asana or yoga philosophy, he can respond. He's good wih experienced yogis and new students. He also plays great music :) during class.

Namaste.

Hari-kirtana = Best class you'll ever take!

That title might sound dramatic, but it's true. When I first took Hari's jiva class more than 2 years ago, I had never felt more energized yet calm at the same time. I always remember one of the first things he said in that class: "in yoga, the endeavor is the perfection"- which is says often. The spiritual focus throughout the difficult asana practice, leaves your body exhausted but your mind clear.

He challenges his students physically, offers great hands on assists and always has amazing encouragement. Plus, he always have jokes that will keep you laughing even when your body is in a position you never thought possible.

Hari is not only a great instructor, but my personal teacher and mentor. He's a great friend and very passionate and knowledgeable. I challenge anyone who thinks yoga is a slow paced, stretching class to try his classes! Whenever I have friends in town that want to try yoga, I always try to bring them to his class and they are never disappointed. If I could give him more than a 5 star rating, I would.
