My name is Heather Benton, eRYT500 and I founded Body Awakenings in 2005 in order to support and foster the sense of mindfulness and peace in the surrounding community. I offer a variety of approaches to achieve and maintain your optimal health. I am Yoga Alliance certified eRYT 500 Kripalu trained yoga teacher and have been practicing yoga for over 20 years. I received my 200 hr certification through The Lotus Room, a Kripalu affiliated studio in Tampa, FL where I was blessed to study under Master Teacher Karin Stephan, co-founder of the original Iyengar Studio in Boston. I continued my studies in the 500hr certification program with Master Teachers Tias and Surya Little in Santa Fe, New Mexico and completed my 500hr certification under Master Teacher Lillah Schwartz. Others who have influenced my teachings include David Newman, Krishna Das, Ellise Browning-Miller, Roger Cole, Dr. Ray Long and Steve Ross. These wonderful teachers along with my years of experience as a personal trainer and years of anatomy studies have helped me develop a style of teaching that hones into my students body to help unlock what is holding them back. Whether you are experiencing pain or simply want to improve your physical and mental wellbeing, Body Awakenings provides a healing and friendly environment to do so.

Really, really LIKE HEATHER!!!

I'm new to yoga, and needed a lot of help with my aches and pains and lack of flexibility. Heather's Gentle/Restorative classes are a perfect fit for my beginner's level. She takes every opportunity to help individuals. I LOVE going to her classes and her private instruction was excellent, and put me on my path to wellness.

Heather is an experienced, spiritual, and body conscious yoga teacher. She is professional, friendly, and fun. Heather has helped me with specific adjustments that have made asanas accessible for me.
Her teaching encourages growth on many levels. I have practiced yoga for 15 years, and she is a teacher that I have total confidence in.

Well balanced instructor

I've had 4 yoga instructors over the years and Heather is the best by far. She's friendly, funny, and obviously enjoys her practice and wants to make sure we enjoy ours. She gives exacting descriptions and demonstrates positions in ways we all understand. She is extremely focused on safety and knows all her students so we'll she easily knows when a position is not right for an individual. I so appreciate this for myself and appreciate how she helps others.

Private classes

Heathers private classes are a great addition to my regular practice. I try to schedule two to three private classes a year to fine tune. Prior to my most recent private session, I viewed chair yoga as something reserved for the elderly or injured - I had NO IDEA how beneficial and challenging this could be! I consider myself to be relatively strong and flexible but after one hour, learning how to utilize a chair to properly align, I found myself humbled!

Heather has an enormous amount of knowledge as it relates to proper alignment and how to challenge the body for best results and maximization of flexibility. Whether you are a new yogi, intermediate or advanced, she has nuggets of knowledge to benefit your practice. I highly recommend and greatly appreciate her expertise and intuitive method of teaching.
