Heather Johnson is a yoga and mindfulness teacher and the founder of Yoga Playground Ltd., a Calgary-based company that specializes in providing yoga
training for students and teachers at school. She is a compassionate and
energetic teacher that believes in the proven benefits of a regular yoga and mindfulness practice for children and adults alike.
As a parent and an educator, Heather feels that yoga should be accessible to all children, regardless of age, ability or demographics. Through study, yoga has been proven to be an excellent complement to existing classroom management, stress reduction and kinaesthetic teaching. Through Yoga Playground, she is working toward making yoga a regular part of both physical education and classroom curriculum.
Heather has maintained a dedicated yoga practice for more than a decade. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT200) and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT) through Yoga Alliance. She has received teacher training at United Yoga of Montreal, Yoga Mandala, Rainbow Kids Yoga, Yoga Kids, Yoga Ed. (Preschool, K-8 and High School), Yoga in my School, Mamata Yoga and Yoga Thrive (for Cancer Survivors). Heather is continuing her special needs yoga education at Dubasov Dance and Wellness and mindful education with Mindful Schools.
Heather has taught thousands of students in Calgary-area public and private schools, preschoolers and daycares, studios and community centres. She has also introduced yoga to many preschool and elementary aged teachers at Mount Royal University, the Calgary City Teachers Convention, several Health and Physical Education Conferences and board-wide Professional Development days for both the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School District.
An avid skier, cyclist and traveler, Heather is the mother of three little school-aged yogis. The daughter of two teachers, Heather was raised appreciating the value of education. She holds a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Communications and a Diploma in Radio and Television.
