Yin and Restorative Yoga is a slow-paced, quiet and passive practice that is deeply relaxing and nourishing for body, mind and soul. It suitable for beginners and those with experience, and is a perfect complement to our high-paced stressful lifestyles, as well as a regular Hatha, Dynamic/Vinyasa-Flow style yoga practice. This practice allows deep surrender, letting-go; it brings stillness to the body and mind, and balance to your whole being. In a Yin and Restorative Yoga session you practice a series of simple floor-based postures which are held for extended periods of time, usually up to 5 minutes, but sometimes for longer. Yoga props (blankets, bolsters, blocks, cushions) are very often used so the body is completely supported and all muscular effort can be released. These supported longer holds allow you the time and space to release the deep-rooted patterns of tension and restrictions that we all carry as a result of our stressful lifestyles and ageing. Whilst this is a slow-paced and nurturing practice, it can also be surprisingly intense and challenging, and it is also a great way to learn how to cultivate a calmer and more contemplative state of mind. There is a final period of complete relaxation at the end of each session, leaving you relaxed, restored and renewed.
Hatha Yoga is a traditional style of yoga which is equally suitable for complete beginners and intermediate students. My Hatha Yoga classes will help improve your flexibility and increase muscle tone, help you to unwind and release physical and mental tension, calm and focus the mind, and bring a you general sense of physical and mental well-being; leaving you relaxed, restored and renewed at the end of the session. Class content and focus varies from session to session, depending on the needs and requirements of the students in each class – some themes I have worked with recently are Yoga for Back Pain, Recharging the Immune System, Better Breathing, Strong and Supple Shoulders, Hips and Hamstrings, and Yoga for Travel.
