My first Yoga teacher training was in 2005 with Amba and Don Stapleton, in Costa Rica at the renowned Nosara Yoga Institute. It was a transformational experience and deepened my understanding of Hatha Yoga, Self-Inquiry, and the power of Sacred Land, Ocean, and Nature. I have returned to Costa Rica almost every year to dive back into the Jungle "classroom". Currently enrolled in the 500hr-RYT program with Janet Stone; I am humbled by and grateful to the endless yogic journey of learning and becoming. Over the past year, I began exploring chanting and playing the harmonium. The inner aliveness, joy, and connectedness I have experienced as a result has inspired me to continue learning and freeing my voice with Girish as my teacher. I offer a strong physical practice with opportunities for exploration and softening. Throughout the practice, focus is directed on the continuous, rhythmic breath as a direct invitation to presence and the gateway to inner stillness. The breath not only sustains the practice, it is the vehicle of universal spirit, or prana, and it brings about the transformation of yoga. This transformation is the ultimate shift from striving to being, from thinking to deeply listening.
The Yoga I teach is rooted in tradition and shaped by the techniques, insights, and teachings I have learned in my practice of Reiki and Earth Energy Medicine over the least 17 years. The Land, Animals, Plants, Stones, Waters and Spirit are my greatest teachers and inspiration. I learned to Surf in the Oceans of Cape Cod where I spent the happiest part of my childhood and my 20's. Surfing has drawn me to live on Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii where the gifts of life on the Islands extend even beyond Mother Ocean. When I am surfing, I feel free, strong, fluid, connected to Spirit and all that is, present, at alive and happy, protected and loved. Big Sur, CA called me home long ago. I am so blessed and so deeply grateful to live with my husband and our animal family on this sacred mountain above the sea.
Animals, both domestic and wild, humble and inspire me. In my work with these sentient beings, I have had the opportunity to witness resiliency of spirit, humor, zen-like wisdom and a love so pure it is unmistakably Divine in nature. I call upon my spirit guides , St. Francis, and Archangel Michael to support my animal friends on their journey. My path is in service to and in honor of animals.
I am a Usui Reiki Master Teacher. The energy medicine that I practice today has evolved over the past 17 years. What began purely as Reiki has taken shapelessness. Energy sessions have the ability to shift into spirit guide communication, illumination, extraction, a profound inner listening or a "Hawk's eye view" for the receiver and sometimes it is Reiki.
In 2008 and 2009, I studied Qi Gong with Grandmaster Dr. Hong Liu and received certification in both the Golden Eight and Rejuvenation Forms. I often bring aspects of this art into the yoga practice as a way to amplify energy circulation.
I share a little of my story with you so that you may know what I bring to class is an extension of my authentic experience. There are many teachers and healers, many styles of yoga and energy medicine. Trust that you will be able to discern which is right for you at specific times in your life. Cultivating the skill of deep listening develops a clear, grounded, connection to your most powerful guides: your Self and Spirit. When you have unshakeable trust in yourself, the choices you make in your life will support the dreams and longings of your inner world, of your heart.
My classes are a blend of ebb and flow: breath, mindful movement and dynamic stillness, intermingled with joy and lightness, inspiration and introspection, sweat and Spirit. It is my intention to guide my students beyond technique and into the experience of deep listening. Through deep listening we know our Self, our limitlessness and our goodness.
