I was born in Perth, Western Australia, where I grew up running barefoot, climbing the magnolia tree in my backyard, and spent most of my time in the salty water. When I was 12, I moved to Canada and found yoga later on when I tagged along with a friend to a class.
After studying Health Sciences under the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Calgary and working with Dr. Gregor Wolbring at the Center for Research and Disabilities Studies on a research project on Autism and yoga, I was inspired to start a social venture that would make yoga accessible to children with Special Needs.
I recognized a need for holistic and affordable programming in Calgary and so created Wymbin- a children’s & youth yoga studio that focuses on providing families with wellness education, movement-based classes, and an inclusive community environment. The Wymbin team believes that by focusing on the health of our youth and implementing strong values, healthy coping mechanisms, and community-focused relationships, they can start to change the world! Our studio (located in Inglewood underneath Junction 9 Yoga and Pilates) offers a wide range of yoga-based classes and programs.
In order to give back to the community and follow through with my vision to make yoga accessible to all kids & youth, I created the BEAM Foundation- which stands for Balance, Empower, Action, and Movement. BEAM is a not-for-profit organization that provides free yoga programs to kids + youth who are ill, recovering, have Special Needs, or come from low-income families. We also offer support and empower youth to make a difference in their community. BEAM is able to do this by partnering with local organizations such as the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Inn from the Cold, and the Women in Need Society.
I believe that every kid can discover their unique abilities and their full potential with the right support and guidance. Through yoga, I have had the opportunity to study yoga in Baha, teach with Wanderlust Festival across North America, develop yoga programming for The Alberta Children’s Hospital- amongst many incredible organizations, and am inspired to create and learn every day.
In addition to working with kids + youth, I also love teaching yoga to adults. I obtained my 200hr Certification from Yandara Yoga Institute and am inspired by the practice to slow down, reconnect, and breathe.
