Johanna has herself experienced the profound impact bodywork and yoga have had on her life, and her goal in her work is to help others to experience the depth of healing that these modalities can offer.
About Johanna's yoga: "I grew up practicing gymnastics and modern dance. I always loved stretching, exploring movement, and being upside down. Yoga gave me a way to explore my body in a way that opened my spirit and consciousness in a way I had never before experienced. It completely hooked me,"
Johanna's classes are meditative, playful, and encourage tuning in to the wisdom of your own body. Her style is most influenced by Kripalu, Hatha, Vinyasa, and classical Ashtanga yoga. Some of Johanna's greatest teachers and influences include the teacher training teams at Mt. Madonna Center and Kripalu, Pema Chodron, Stephen Cope, Sudhir Jonathan Foust, Shobhan Richard Faulds, Shiva Rea, Kelly Blaser, Todd Norian, Rusty Wells, and Janet Stone. Johanna has been practicing yoga since 2001 and teaching since 2005.
About Acro: Johanna has found that the solar acroyoga practice has the potential to help reconnect you with light-heartedness, playfulness, creativity, grace, flexibility (physically and emotionally), and strength. The lunar practice offers the blissful experience of being in a body that is relaxed, cared for and connected with another.
Johanna's favorite part of teaching is seeing her students and friends experience the acro "high" that ensues taking flight, and seeing them surprise themselves with courage and strength they didn't know they had, and seeing them connect with friends both old and new.
In addition to her private practice, Wise Touch Healing / Berkshire Thai and Fly, Johanna also works at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health as a healing arts therapist, yoga instructor, R+R program presenter, and lead therapist/ trainer. Johanna also offers her services to those in recovery from addiction at the Center for Motivation and Change of the Berkshires, and teaches regularly at Yoga Great Barrington and leads workshops both locally and around the US. When not practicing yoga or massage, Johanna can most often be found dancing, doing acro yoga, walking the Berkshire hills, playing with her two cats, Bodhi and Maitri, or behind her camera.
