After over 10 years of living a yogi lifestyle and seeing the benefits of walking in the disciplines of yoga, Joyce decided it was time she helped bring this gift to populations that would not normally have access to classes. Joyce received her 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certification in Ashtanga yoga after shadowing her mentor Ki F. Kosut at the Ki-Atsu LMT, CPT, RYT at Institute of healing arts for 12 months. During that time she also honed her skills as an Ayurveda Consultant. Shortly after, Joyce created a class called (seriously out of shape) and taught in back rooms of salons and spas to those who were obese, physically, medically, or emotional unable or unwilling to join a typical yoga class at a gym or studio. It has always been Joyce's mantra that "Yoga is for Every-Body" . Over the years Joyce accumulated as many CEU's as she could get her hands on that were aimed at helping vulnerable populations. Among these certifications are; Restorative yoga for back and spine injury or disease from All About Yoga, and Trauma Informed Outreach Certification with The Connection Coalition. Joyce has suffered multiple crisis and trauma through her life and these experiences have gifted her such empathy she is drawn to help those who are forgotten. In 2012 after watching her 22 year old son die in front of her, Joyce's desire to help was turbo boosted. She began volunteer teaching at the vet center where she herself was being counseled for PTSD and quickly found herself very busy teaching at many agencies who needed her style of soul nurturing yoga. Joyce now finds herself blessed to be contracted to teach: at-risk youth at multiple schools, traumatic brain injury patients, PTSD vets and over-comers of traumas such as traumatic grief, sexual assault and domestic violence. She walks in a yoga lifestyle and feels privileged to be living her Dharma helping others through her organization (trauma recovery yoga)
