Julie Adler has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years; she is fully certified in the Iyengar tradition, Introductory II Level. Julie began her yoga studies, practice and teaching in 1992 in New York City under the tutelage of senior Iyengar teacher, Mary Dunn and never looked back. She subsequently studied intensively in Paris, and then Los Angeles (with senior teachers Anna Delury, Karin O'Bannon, and Manouso Manos) and India, having had the great privilege to receive direct teachings from BKS Iyengar, Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. She has been a faculty member of the Department of Kinesiology at Cal State University Los Angeles for 8 years, and has taught at Woodbury University, YogaWorks, Silver Lake Yoga, The Walt Disney Company, and many other places. She's served on the Boards for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California; Los Angeles Friends of Tibet; and Cal Arts Alumni Association. She's also worked as a hospice volunteer at Cedars Sinai.

A frequent past contributor to LA YOGA Magazine, Julie was also contributing producer on the monthly Pacifica Radio program, The Tibet Connection. She is a long time student of Buddhism, first under the watchful eye of Vipassana legend Ruth Denison, and now under the thumb of the imitable Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Julie is also a multi-media artist and classically trained singer; her work includes performance, painting and drawing, and music composition and voice. She has a BFA from Cooper Union and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.

A Great Yoga Instructor!

Julie is a wonderful person and yoga instructor. Even though she has certain poses she'd like to cover for class, she always starts by asking each of us (the class is small) what's going on and if there are any particular needs and then will adjust the class accordingly. She is always focused on her students' overall wellness and will tailor the class to meet our needs and our yoga abilities. I highly recommend Julie for yoga practitioners of any level!

The Best Teacher and Practice So Far

I've been with Julie for 2 years now and feel the impact in many areas of my life. I had done some flows as well but due to time limitations had to make a choice. Julie is an outstanding Iyengar instructor and is very detailed oriented. This is for the self- disciplined and self motivated student. She is funny, patient, and non-judgemental. She is very honest and has been on her own journey so what you see is what you get with no fluff. I hope to continue with her for many years to come.

I have also felt the impact when taking some flows now and a huge impact at work and my relationships in terms of getting alligned before responding. Very humbling as well because it's a lifetime pursuit. I recommend Julie to anyone wanting to deepen their own journey and practice.

My favorite Iyengar yoga teacher!

She is just simply the best and has a fabulous sense of humor to keep things in balance. After her class, I always feel expansive and centered all at the same time.

acutely observant

Julie has a comprehensive mastery of Iyengar yoga and is able to communicate clearly not only the technique, but the purpose and mental/spiritual component of practice. Her depth of understanding is impressive but not intimidating. Her characteristic honesty creates an atmosphere that is illuminating, challenging and fun. I could not recommend her more highly.
