Julie Adler has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years; she is fully certified in the Iyengar tradition, Introductory II Level. Julie began her yoga studies, practice and teaching in 1992 in New York City under the tutelage of senior Iyengar teacher, Mary Dunn and never looked back. She subsequently studied intensively in Paris, and then Los Angeles (with senior teachers Anna Delury, Karin O'Bannon, and Manouso Manos) and India, having had the great privilege to receive direct teachings from BKS Iyengar, Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. She has been a faculty member of the Department of Kinesiology at Cal State University Los Angeles for 8 years, and has taught at Woodbury University, YogaWorks, Silver Lake Yoga, The Walt Disney Company, and many other places. She's served on the Boards for the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California; Los Angeles Friends of Tibet; and Cal Arts Alumni Association. She's also worked as a hospice volunteer at Cedars Sinai.
A frequent past contributor to LA YOGA Magazine, Julie was also contributing producer on the monthly Pacifica Radio program, The Tibet Connection. She is a long time student of Buddhism, first under the watchful eye of Vipassana legend Ruth Denison, and now under the thumb of the imitable Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche. Julie is also a multi-media artist and classically trained singer; her work includes performance, painting and drawing, and music composition and voice. She has a BFA from Cooper Union and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.
