As her friend Vanessa said at the close of her first yoga class with Karen, "You were made to teach yoga!" From a lifetime of enjoying movement as a dancer to finding her passion as a group fitness instructor, Karen enjoys sharing the joy of yoga to bring serenity, strength, balance and flexibility to your life and your body. Practicing medicine for over 20 years taught Karen not only the anatomy and physiology that are integral to the practice of yoga but also the importance of taking care of one's body and mind. Having an understanding of disease processes helps Karen provide options for you to enjoy yoga whatever your physical concerns may be.
Karen received her yoga training through YogaFit® and is registered with Yoga Alliance as a 200 RYT. She graduated from Duke University magna cum laude with a major in zoology and received her MD with Honors degree at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1988. She is certified as a Group Fitness Instructor with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and has taught group fitness since 1999 and yoga since 2012. She is new enough to the practice of yoga to be humble and compassionate with what it feels like it to walk into your first yoga class.
