Karen started practicing yoga in 1999 in Los Angeles with Anthony Benenati at City Yoga to find greater peace and respite from the Los Angeles bustle. She developed a home practice early on, inspired by Eric Schiffman's book, "Moving Into Stillness." She became interested in Ashtanga Yoga and studied with Sharon Lape (Yoga Works-Mill Valley), who brought her to SF Ashtanga. It was there, under the tutelage of Lape and Meir Leshem (whom she considers her primary teacher), that she developed a strong foundation. She completed her formal 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Teacher Training in San Francisco in 2003. She has taught in the Pacific Northwest, San Francisco, and now in North County San Diego.
Karen's classes are constantly evolving to reflect her ever-changing creativity and passion for the practice. Being connected to the present moment informs her teaching. Her classes are guided by a strong anatomic focus, intermingled with a light-hearted spirit and playfulness. They can range from deep and slow to restorative and nurturing to advanced and highly challenging — pushing you beyond limits and belief systems you thought you had.
