Kelly specializes in teaching yoga and Pilates to the non-traditional client. Her clients include professional athletes, special needs clients, those with physical disabilities and those challenged with chronic pain. She has sought special certifications in Adapting Yoga for Disabilities, Yin Yoga and Yoga for Trauma, specifically PTSD.
Kelly graduated from Indiana University with a BA in Communication Studies. Her background, prior to pursuing her body arts career, includes working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Advertising and Promotions at a video distribution company, creating and managing an inner-city elementary literacy and social competency program, and helping her husband, John, build his software company.
Kelly's interest in the body arts began in her late 20's when she developed a chronic hip and back problem while training for endurance runs both on her own and through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. The Pilates method enabled her to correct muscle imbalances, gain flexibility and build her core muscles in order to keep her in running form. Also during her late 20's, Kelly began to develop symptoms of Fibromyalgia, which is a chronic pain illness that causes musculoskeletal and soft tissue pain as well as deep fatigue. Yoga asana and meditation practice became a way she could manage her pain both physically and mentally. Both practices have enriched her life not just physically; they have also provided a framework in which she views the world and the role she can play within it.
